Recently, there has been debate as to whether cheerleading should be classified as a sport. I have mixed feelings about this. I want what I do to be recognized as taking athletic ability and skill. On the other hand, being a sport means that our team must comply with rules that all other teams follow, including holding tryouts in August instead of May. This means two months less of practice which affects our competition. We are trying to place 1st this year in our competition so we can be in first division next year. Last year, we lost first place by one point on a safety violation. This year, having those extra two months is crucial. So as much as I want people to stop telling me what I do isn't a sport, placing well in competition means more to me.
Come support us at our competition on Nov. 17th at Blair!
Here is a video from competition last year.
