Pakistani Shooting

A few weeks ago, a 15 year old Pakistani  girl was shot on her school bus by a Taliban member. Malala Yousafzai is an activist for women's rights and education. In her town of Swat Valley, the Taliban has banned women from attending school. Malalas activism has led her to blog for BBC, have the New York Times film her. For all of her efforts, Malala was awarded Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize and nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize by Desmond Tutu.

This girl is extremely brave and strong. She is fighting for her life after being shot in the head and neck. Only two weeks after the shooting, Malala is able to stand with assistance and is regaining her reading and writing skills. She has gained the support of people from around the world.

This story made me think twice about my everyday life. I dread waking up early in the morning for school, and spend the week anticipating the weekend. Malala reminded me how lucky I am to be going to school and receiving good public education. I hope that she makes a full recovery and continues to be an activist and a role model for students and girls everywhere.
