Happy Purim

Today is Purim, a Jewish holiday commemorating how the Jews survived a genocide attack by King Haman during the Persian Empire. The story of Purim is told in the Book of Esther, also called the Megillah.  Queen Esther who had kept her Jewish identity a secret, saved the Jews. Purim celebrates the miracle that saved the Jews by sending food packages to their neighbors and donating to charity.

I live in a predominantly orthodox Jewish neighborhood, so my family received many food packages with lots of grape juice and Hamantaschen, a Jewish pastry. It is like reverse Halloween, where you give food to your neighbors instead of the other way around.

This is a song about Purim from The Maccabeats, the same group who sang a song about Hanukkah to the tune of "Dynamite"
