CAP Congress

I am going to use this blog post to reflect upon last weeks CAP Congress. Kyra and I spent our research days trying to figure out how to write a bill about the distribution of Plan B in high schools across the nation, rather than just 13 schools in New York. We got caught up in the funding of the program, but finally decided to reject any distribution of the drug, weather the states or the national government funded it. During debates,  I was personally opposed to the position I was arguing, but as I continued my research for CAP Congress, and added to my arguments, I started to change my own mind. By the end of CAP Congress, I decided I did not agree with having Plan B in schools. By the end of arguing my position in the House of Representatives, I had changed some of the minds of my classmates as well. When we first voted on the topic, 24 representatives agreed with Plan B in schools, which only 8 opposed it. By the second vote and much more debating, the vote came to 16 yes, 14 no and 4 abstentions. I liked the fact that I was able to affect peoples views with what I was saying. Even though the bill for Plan B passed, I enjoyed CAP Congress and thought it was a success.
